Since 2006, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare has been serving humanity by giving vulnerable children in Kpando, Ghana, access to safety, education, nutritious meals, mentoring, and family support. The Beginning of Ryvanz-Mia Childcare
The story of Ryvanz-Mia Childcare began with personal loss, compassion, and courage. After experiencing painful family tragedies, the founder, Madam Esime Djentuh, affectionately known as Mama Esi, decided to turn her grief into service.
Rather than allowing hardship to define the rest of her life, she opened her home to vulnerable children who needed care, stability, and protection. Initially, she began with two children. However, as the needs within the community became more visible, the number of children receiving support gradually increased.
The name Ryvanz-Mia carries personal meaning. “Ryvanz” honors the founder’s daughter, while “Mia” recognizes one of the first volunteers who supported the mission. Therefore, the organization’s name reflects both remembrance and partnership.
In 2006, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare was registered as a nonprofit organization in Ghana. From that point forward, the mission began to grow from informal home-based care into a structured organization serving vulnerable children and families in Kpando and surrounding communities.

Providing Safe and Loving Care
From the beginning, safe care has remained one of the organization’s greatest priorities. Children who have experienced poverty, family separation, neglect, bereavement, or other difficult circumstances need more than temporary assistance. They need trusted adults, stable routines, nutritious food, emotional support, and a place where they feel valued.
For this reason, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare has worked to create a family-like environment rather than simply providing shelter. Children are encouraged to see themselves as capable individuals with dreams, talents, and responsibilities.
Moreover, the organization recognizes that care must protect a child’s dignity. Children should never be defined only by their hardships. Instead, they should be supported according to their strengths, needs, interests, and potential.
Making Education a Priority
Education has always been central to the mission of Ryvanz-Mia Childcare. Without access to quality education, vulnerable children face greater risks of unemployment, exploitation, poverty, and social exclusion.
Therefore, the organization helps children with school enrollment at Hope Memorial School and provides uniforms, books, learning materials, transportation, tutoring, and mentoring. In addition, children are encouraged to remain committed to their studies and to see education as a pathway toward independence.
Several children supported by Ryvanz-Mia Childcare have completed senior high school, while others have continued into vocational training, colleges, and universities. These achievements demonstrate that consistent support can change the direction of a child’s life.
From Residential Care to Family Reintegration
As child-protection practices have developed, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare has continued to strengthen its focus on foster care, family connection, and reintegration.
Although residential care may be necessary in some situations, children generally benefit from growing within safe and supportive family environments. Consequently, the organization works with extended family members, community leaders, and the Department of Social Welfare to identify appropriate long-term care arrangements.
So far, 23 children have been safely reintegrated with extended family members. However, reintegration is not treated as a simple return home. Instead, it requires preparation, family assessment, school planning, follow-up, and continued support.
Supporting Children After Reintegration
After a child returns to a family environment, challenges may still arise. For example, the family may need help with school fees, food, healthcare, clothing, or transportation.
Therefore, aftercare remains an important part of the reintegration process. Ryvanz-Mia Childcare continues to maintain relationships with reintegrated children and their caregivers whenever possible.
This approach helps ensure that children do not lose access to education or essential services simply because they have returned to their families.
Hope Memorial School: Building Strong Foundations
One of the most important developments in the organization’s journey has been the establishment of Hope Memorial School.
The school was created to provide young children with access to early childhood education in a safe and nurturing environment. It serves children connected to Ryvanz-Mia Childcare as well as families from the surrounding community.
At Hope Memorial School, children receive lessons in early literacy, numeracy, communication, creativity, social development, and healthy routines. In addition, school meals help learners remain attentive, active, and ready to participate.
The school also reflects the organization’s belief that early intervention matters. When children receive a strong educational foundation, they are more likely to succeed in primary school and beyond.
Furthermore, Hope Memorial School strengthens the connection between education, nutrition, childcare, and community development.
Nutrition, Feeding, and Child Wellbeing
A child cannot learn effectively while hungry. For this reason, nutrition and feeding remain essential parts of Ryvanz-Mia Childcare’s work.
The organization provides meals to children in care and supports feeding at Hope Memorial School. These meals help improve concentration, attendance, health, and emotional stability.
However, food costs continue to rise. Therefore, the organization has developed sustainable farming initiatives to reduce dependence on purchased food and strengthen long-term food security.
The Yearly Farm Project
The yearly farm project currently includes approximately five acres of maize cultivation. The project is designed to support children’s meals, reduce food expenses, and provide practical agricultural experience.
Part of the harvest is used for feeding programs. Meanwhile, the remaining produce may support storage, future planting, and other program needs.
In addition, the farm project teaches young people about agriculture, teamwork, responsibility, patience, and sustainability. As a result, it serves both nutritional and educational purposes.
Healthcare and Emotional Wellbeing
Children need regular medical care, hygiene support, preventive health education, and emotional stability. Therefore, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare helps provide access to clinic visits, medication, health assessments, and emergency medical support when resources are available.
In addition, emotional wellbeing remains an important priority. Children who have experienced hardship may struggle with fear, grief, low self-esteem, or uncertainty.
For this reason, caregivers and mentors provide reassurance, listening, guidance, and encouragement. Although emotional healing takes time, stable relationships can help children rebuild trust and confidence.
Youth Development and Practical Skills
As children grow older, their needs change. Academic education alone may not fully prepare every young person for adulthood. Therefore, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare also promotes youth development, vocational exposure, leadership, and life skills.
Young people may learn practical skills such as tailoring, baking, soap-making, agriculture, creative arts, and small-business development. These activities can help them discover talents and prepare for future employment or entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, mentoring helps young people develop discipline, decision-making skills, communication, financial awareness, and personal responsibility.
The goal is not simply to help children survive childhood. Instead, the organization wants them to enter adulthood with confidence, knowledge, and practical abilities.

One of our real success stories is Isaac, who grew up under the care and guidance of the organization. Through education, mentoring, and determination, he continued his studies and eventually completed a Bachelor of Education degree.
Similarly, Gloria has continued to make progress in school while demonstrating leadership and determination. Her journey shows how consistent encouragement can help a young person remain focused despite difficult circumstances.
Selase has also used her opportunities to encourage and support others. Her achievements in education, leadership, and community involvement demonstrate how one supported child can later become a source of hope to others.
These stories do not suggest that every journey is easy. On the contrary, each child faces unique challenges. Nevertheless, they show that long-term care and education can create possibilities that once seemed out of reach.
The Role of Volunteers and Supporters
Ryvanz-Mia Childcare has never worked alone. Volunteers, donors, churches, schools, organizations, and community members have contributed to its development.
Over the years, volunteers from Ghana and other countries have supported teaching, childcare, fundraising, administration, communications, creative activities, agriculture, and community projects.
However, responsible volunteering requires respect for local leadership, culture, safeguarding, and existing program priorities. Volunteers are most effective when they work alongside local staff rather than trying to replace them.
Similarly, donors and sponsors help provide the financial stability needed to keep children in school, provide meals, respond to medical needs, and maintain essential programs.
The Present: Continuing the Mission
Today, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare continues to serve children and families through connected programs.

The Future of Ryvanz-Mia Childcare
Building the Ryvanz-Mia Foster Village
One of the organization’s most important long-term goals is the development of the Ryvanz-Mia Foster Village.
The vision is to create a purpose-built community that includes family-centered homes, classrooms, healthcare support, recreational spaces, vocational training, and sustainable farming. The Foster Village would provide a safer and more suitable environment for vulnerable children while strengthening Hope Memorial School and other community programs.
In addition, the village would support a more family-based model of care rather than a large institutional environment.
Expanding Hope Memorial School
The organization also plans to expand Hope Memorial School through improved classrooms, educational materials, teacher support, play areas, and feeding facilities.
As enrollment increases, additional space and resources will be needed. Therefore, partnerships with donors, schools, churches, businesses, and foundations will remain important.
Strengthening Sustainable Programs
In the future, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare intends to strengthen farming, vocational training, youth mentoring, and family-support programs.
These initiatives can reduce dependency, improve food security, create income opportunities, and help families care for children more effectively.
Furthermore, sustainable programs allow the organization to move beyond emergency assistance and address the deeper causes of vulnerability.
