This year marks our Crystal Anniversary—nineteen remarkable years of transforming lives and giving hope to disadvantaged children and families. We are filled with deep gratitude as we reflect on how far we’ve come, where we began, and the bright future that lies ahead.
Our Story: Born from Compassion
Our journey began with one woman’s incredible strength and compassion.
After enduring the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, son, and husband within just two years, Mrs. Esime Djentuh—fondly known as Mama Esi—turned her pain into purpose.
Disturbed by the hardship faced by underprivileged children in Kpando—many of whom struggled to eat even twice a day—she decided to take action. As a professional fashion designer and lifelong philanthropist, Mama Esi reached out to the Department of Social Welfare to establish a home for orphaned and vulnerable children.
And so, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare was born—founded on compassion, love, and faith in the potential of every child.
Our Achievements: Nineteen Years of Impact
Looking back over the years, our journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Through the dedication of our team, volunteers, and donors, we have achieved many milestones, including:
- Construction of a computer laboratory and library
- Re-fencing of the orphanage home for safety and security
- Support for eight foster children completing Senior High School
- One former foster child has graduated from university and completed national service, while another is training in journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism
- Establishment of a mini-shop to generate income for the home
- Forming international partnerships with other childcare homes
- Hosting over 100 volunteers from around the world
- Completion of a modern kitchen project
- Acquisition of six plots of land for future classrooms and dormitories
- Construction and mechanization of boreholes for clean water
- Launching a piggery and poultry farm with over 100 birds
- Cultivating a 17-acre plantation farm to support sustainability
Each milestone stands as a testament to what love, faith, and community can achieve together.
Moments of Sorrow
While we celebrate our successes, we also remember moments of great loss.
One of the most difficult times in our fifteen-year journey was the passing of a foster child living with sickle cell disease. After a brief illness, he sadly passed away, leaving behind his twin brother, now studying journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
His memory continues to remind us of the importance of providing not just shelter, but healthcare and emotional support to every child in our care.
Challenges We Continue to Face
Despite our accomplishments, Ryvanz-Mia Childcare still faces pressing challenges.
These include:
- Inadequate toilet and bathing facilities for the children
- Limited accommodation for our reintegrated foster children
- Lack of employment opportunities for older youth transitioning out of care
- Inability to provide regular stipends to caregivers due to the ongoing economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
