Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer Requirement

Age and Skills: No exceptional experience or skills are required to participate in our volunteer work in Kpando, Ghana. All you need is a commitment, desire, and loyalty to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Volunteers should also be flexible, self-motivated, and willing to learn and take new initiatives.

Age Requirement: Our program is designed for potential volunteers eighteen years and above who love children, youth, women, and people with disabilities and want to experience International cultural and social experiences.

Group Volunteering? We invite potential volunteers, students on internship, and faith-based groups to embark on this incredible adventure! As an organization, we offer any group of volunteers in the Ghana volunteering program. Are you looking for long-term?

Volunteer Work: Volunteers are embarking on long-term volunteering programs in Ghana. Should contact us for more information about our long-term volunteering.

Airport pick-up in Ghana: The airport’s name is Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana. Volunteers traveling to our program will be welcomed by a staff of Ryvanz-Mia at the arrival hall with your name and our logo. Ryvanz-Mia is located a four to five hours drive from Accra. Since you will arrive in Accra late evening, it’s a good idea to stay overnight in Accra; click here to check overnight fees before continuing your journey to Kpando by bus. We offer to pick you up at the airport to pay for transportation and hotel accommodation.

Insurance (optional): This is optional for volunteers, but it is advisable you purchase suitable travel insurance before departure.

Visa Information: All volunteers traveling to Ghana must apply for a visa through the Ghanaian embassy in your country before traveling. Due to the high volume of work, please ensure your application must reach the embassy within one month before departure. For more information, go to the website:http://www.ghanaembassy.org/

Please note that you must have at least six months of passport after the planned return.

Vaccinations: Consult your doctor well before departure to get the necessary vaccinations. Vaccination is required before traveling to Ghana. Discuss with your doctor ways and steps to prevent malaria. Click here to read more about the Covid-19 Ghana update.

Ghana Currency: In Ghana, our currency is called cedis. You can bring Euros or Dollars after declaring at your port entry, which can be converted into Cedis when you come to Ghana.

HOUSING/MEAL: Volunteers live and work with the Ryvanz-Mia Childcare. The organization will provide further details to all volunteers on arrival. Contact us for more information.

All meals are prepared on-site by Mama Esi and Juliet, with three scheduled meal times. For volunteers teaching the children, a bag lunch can be prepared and taken to school in the morning.

Vegetarians are easily accommodated by our host families, with rice, fruit, and a wide variety of beans available. The more popular local fruits include plantains, pineapples, and oranges.

Please Note: Volunteers with special dietary needs or food allergies should note their needs on their volunteer application to notify us in advance. Purified drinking water is provided for volunteers for the first three days.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Joining a volunteer program for the orphanage in Ghana automatically sign you up as an ambassador. Your involvement as a potential volunteer demands a high level of commitment and responsibility.

  • Caring for our kids as one family.
  • Help with homework and prepare the kids for school.
  • Create a lovely and fun environment.
  • Engage the children in whatever activities or skills you have that will be beneficial and worth sharing.

➢ Office work – using the computer, etc., helping with correspondence and fundraising.

➢ Helping kids with their homework puts them in charge of children struggling with their studies, especially assigning them one-on-one attention. For educational projects, we have found that volunteers work very well as teacher’s assistants and concentrate on children with literacy difficulties.

➢ We are running kindergarten classes preparing classroom materials and libraries.

➢ In schools and our orphanage, the volunteer will organize reading tutoring for struggling kids. It is not wise to place the volunteer in sole charge of a classroom. This is a local teacher’s job. Volunteers are best as assistants or running small classes of 5-10 children to focus individual attention.

➢ Put them as assistants in a fundraising drive.

➢ Get them to take special care of the younger children, help with changing diapers, washing clothes, and checking they keep their bedrooms neat.

Volunteer work schedule: A volunteer program and accommodation are within the home.

  • Arrival at Kotoka International Airport.
  • Orientation session with the volunteer(s).
  • Tuesday to Friday for volunteer work.
  • Breakfast at 7:30 am
  • Leave for projects.
  • Lunch at 12:30 p.m.
  • Dinner at 5:30 p.m.
  • The weekend is free for volunteers to visit any regional tourist attractions.

The same work schedule runs throughout your stay with the organization.

Please note that the schedules are subject to change depending on your projects. Volunteering with Ryvanz-Mia Childcare is a great way to give back to the community or earn service hours. Whether you help out in the child care room during a program, volunteer for a fundraising opportunity, or offer your talents in some other way, you’ll make a difference for local families.

Please choose from the list below to sign up for a volunteer opportunity. If you have questions about volunteering with Ryvanz-Mia Childcare, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at ryvanzmia23@gmail.com
